Unown (I,A,N)

COMPLETED: 65 GOAL: 649

I have a couple other Pokemon in the works, so I thought I would do something very simple to fill in while I finish the others. There are a lot of Unowns (one for each letter for the alphabet plus two), but they are essentually the same. The eye front and back pattern is the base pattern for all of them. I started with the letters I, A, N (the name of my son). The rest of the letters will follow as I finish them.

Materials: crochet hook, white and black yarn, cardboard

Eye front: (join rounds)
With black, 6 sc in magic circle (6)
Row 1: change to white, 2 sc in each sc around (12)
Row 2: sc next sc, 2 sc next sc, around (18)

Weave a piece of yarn between rows 2 and 3 along inside loops. Secure one side and tighten slightly. The spike should appear to have some ridges. Secure other end. Stuff and sew to top of head. (Not the best of pictures, tried to show the ridges)

Finish: The eyes consist of three colors, outlined in black. Since I use felt to create my eyes, I didn't want to glue four layers of felt together (it didn't look very good). So what I did was once I has settled on a overall size for the eye, I cut out an eye in light blue, medium blue and yellow. Starting with the yellow inside eye piece, I layed the yellow felt over the medium blue and then cut across making the yellow piece. Keep the smallest yellow piece, discard the rest. Now take the larger medium blue piece and lay it over the light blue piece. Cut across the pieces forming the next two pieces. Discard the top most piece of the medium blue and the largest piece of the light blue (bottom part). You should be left with the small piece of yellow, the center piece of medium blue and the end piece of light blue. The edges should fit together perfectly. Cut out a larger piece of black, Glue the eye pieces on and then trim around the black felt leaving an outline. Make the second eye the same way. I hope this makes since, its actually easier to do then write. Glue eyes to head and then embroider mouth with black yarn.
